AFTER AN EXTRACTION:
Discomfort may last for 24-48 hours. It's pretty difficult to have a tooth removed and not feel anything afterwards. A small amount of bleeding for a few hours is not unusual. Follow the instructions you were given and if you run out of gause, use a wet tea bag and bite down for an additional 15 minutes. This will act as a compression bandage. Take any pain medication that has been prescribed. Please no Alcohol. Do not suck on straws or smoke. This may dislodge the blood clot and slow the healing process. Avoid hot liquids, nuts, popcorn etc.. Try not to play with the area with your tongue. Please call us if there are any questions.
AFTER ROOT CANALS:
Discomfort and swelling may occur for three to five days. The tooth may be tender for a week. Take any pain medication or antibiotics as prescribed. Please no alcohol. Avoid any hard food in that area as the tooth is more prone to fracture, until a crown is made.
Be gentle with the tooth. Chew on the other side. Please call us if the tooth feels high or there are any questions.
AFTER CROWN PREPARATION:
The tooth and the gums may be tender The tooth has been trimmed down and the gum has been pushed away from the tooth for an accurate impression. Sensitivity to cold or pressure is also possible. If you can bite your teeth together and feel that you are hitting the temporary, please call us for a quick adjustment. Be gentle with the tooth and chew on the other side.
When using floss, string the floss out after snapping it down. Don't pull up as you would normally do because the temporary may come off. If this happens, call the office and bring the temporary in and it is simply recemented. Please call us if there are any questions.
AFTER DEEP SCALING::
The next two weeks after the deep scaling is very important. The healing gums are still susceptible to reinfection.Your teeth need to be cleaned at least twice a day . The use of Peridex or a like medication will help keep the bacteria down and allow the the gums to heal.
Rinsing with salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in an 8 oz glass of warm water) is very helpful. The salt water actually kills the bacteria and tightens the gums. If the teeth are sensitive to hot or cold, use Sensodyne toothpaste. Fluoride rinses are also helpful in reducing sensitivity. Please call us if there are any questions.
