EMERGENCY

Accidents happen…knowing what to do can save a tooth.

TOOTH THAT HAS BEEN KNOCKED OUT:

Rinse the tooth off with water if it is dirty. Don't scrub or try to clean it and leave anything that is attached alone. Put the tooth in a cup of milk or water.  Please call the office, and meet me at the office. Bring the tooth.  Attend to any bleeding or facial cuts.

CORNER OF TOOTH BROKEN OFF:

Treat facial cuts and bleeding first. If the broken portion is found, bring it along. Please call the office and I'll meet you at the office. I will try to bond a bandage-type of resin to protect the tooth, and see if the nerve has been injured.  I may take an x-ray. .

POSSIBLE BROKEN JAW:

Use cold compresses to control the swelling. Go to the emergency room at the hospital. Please call the office. An Oral Surgeon may want to wire the jaw to the opposing jaw and use it as a splint.

TOOTHACHE:

Brush the area and use dental floss to remove any food that is caught. Take an over-the-counter pain pill, such as Tylenol or aspirin, depending on your allergies. If the pain doesn't go away, or gets worse,  please call the office.
